You can love being a mother and still have dreams, ambitions, and goals of your own.

You love your family, but lately you've been wondering: what about me?

Motherhood can bring unexpected changes to your identity, relationships, priorities, and career goals.

Maybe you're feeling guilty for wanting time for yourself, uncertain about returning to work, or considering a new direction. Perhaps there are personal ambitions you've put on hold, or you're beginning to wonder what this next chapter could look like.

You may love being a mother while also missing parts of yourself or wanting something more for your own personal growth.

You can be grateful for the life you have and still want to make changes.

At Her Spark Counselling, I support women navigating motherhood and other life transitions, including changes in identity, relationships, and personal or professional goals.

Together, we'll explore what matters most to you, work through the challenges you're facing, and help you move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

A space for you to reconnect, grow, and feel understood.

About Me

Hi, I’m Flavia Genovese, MSW, RSW, a Registered Social Worker, mother of two, and founder of Her Spark Counselling and Vaughan Stroller Moms.

I’m passionate about supporting women as they navigate challenges, transitions, and changing roles. Whether you’re a young adult finding your footing, a woman navigating work or relationships, or a mother adjusting to a new chapter, counselling can offer space to pause, feel understood, and explore what matters to you.

My professional background includes 10+ years in community health care, supporting marginalized communities through counselling, case management, and program development and coordination.

For the past eight years, I’ve worked in post-secondary education, providing personal and accessibility counselling to young adults and adults. I’ve supported people navigating mental health concerns, disabilities, accessibility barriers, academic pressures, and significant life transitions. This work has reinforced my belief that meaningful support needs to consider each person’s experiences, circumstances, strengths, and barriers, not rely on a one-size-fits-all approach.

I’m also the founder of Vaughan Stroller Moms, a community that brings hundreds of local mothers together through walks, events, and opportunities for connection. Building this community has deepened my understanding of the emotional and social experiences of pregnancy, postpartum life, and motherhood, from isolation and overwhelm to shifting identities and the challenge of making space for yourself. It has strengthened my commitment to helping women feel supported as individuals, not only in the roles they hold for others.

Across these experiences, one belief guides my work: you have strengths worth building on.

Welcome to Her Spark

Life is full of transitions, and sometimes the roles and responsibilities we take on can leave little room for our own needs.

Whether you're adjusting to motherhood, returning to work, exploring a new career, navigating relationships, or simply feeling unsure of your next steps, counselling can offer a space to focus on yourself.

You don't need to have everything figured out before reaching out.

At Her Spark Counselling, you'll find a welcoming, supportive environment where we can explore your experiences, reconnect with your strengths, and work toward meaningful change.

“Sometimes, having space to feel heard and understood can help you reconnect with yourself and see a way forward.”

My Approach

Practical support. Meaningful change. At your pace.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and strengths-based, with a focus on brief, solution-focused counselling.

I believe you already bring valuable strengths, experiences, and perspectives into our work together.

Counselling is an opportunity to build on those strengths while exploring the challenges that may be making it difficult to move forward.

Together, we'll work to:

  • Explore what's keeping you feeling stuck or overwhelmed.

  • Gain clarity around your needs, values, and priorities.

  • Navigate changes in identity, relationships, or life circumstances.

  • Develop practical strategies for setting boundaries and managing stress.

  • Explore decisions related to personal growth, work, or career goals.

  • Build confidence in yourself and your ability to navigate change.

Our sessions will focus on what matters most to you, with realistic goals and strategies that fit your life.

We'll regularly reflect on your progress, what's working, and what you may want to approach differently.

Understand Your Experience

We’ll explore what’s been weighing on you and how your experiences, relationships, responsibilities, and changing roles may be shaping how you feel. Understanding these patterns can make it easier to identify what you need.

Build on Your Strengths

You are more than the challenge that brought you to counselling. We’ll look at your existing strengths, what has helped you through difficult moments, and what is already working, even in small ways.

Find a Way Forward

Together, we’ll clarify your priorities and explore realistic strategies and manageable steps that fit your everyday life. Small changes can create meaningful momentum.

Inclusive, Accessibility-Informed Care

My background in accessibility counselling has shaped how I work. I recognize that needs, abilities, communication preferences, and barriers differ from person to person. I aim to offer a flexible, respectful, and collaborative counselling experience, and welcome conversations about accommodations that may support your participation in virtual sessions.

Depending on your needs and goals, our work may draw on:

  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Motivational Interviewing

  • Mindfulness and self-compassion

  • Strengths-based practices
